The Daily Telegraph reports that a £250m water plant will be out of action until at least next year despite the UK experiencing record summer heat. The paper says the Thames Water desalination plant in Beckton, east London, was built to prevent thousands of households from experiencing the effects of drought. Senior industry sources have suggested the plant has been mothballed due to high running costs, the paper claims.
