Nato is set to increase the number of troops on high alert to 300,000, seven times higher than current levels, reports the Financial Times. The defensive alliance’s secretary general Jens Stoltenberg has also announced there will be an increase in troop deployments near Russia as part of a move towards a “full defence of allied territory”, the paper says.
