Conor O’Rourke, a three-year-old born with the one-in-a-million vein of Galen malformation, is now deemed 99% cured after surgeons in Liverpool used a world-first technique to reroute his blood flow and spare him the risk of brain damage, heart failure and an uncertain future, enabling him to start school with the prospect of a normal life.
