More than 22,000 people suspected to have committed a crime are roaming free after failing to appear in court, according to the Daily Mail. Alleged offences include murder, rape and other violent acts, the paper says, but police are too stretched to arrest them. One former minister said the paper’s findings “lay bare how shambolic our justice system has become”.
