Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz is due to travel to Kyiv for talks with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky before meeting Mr Putin on Tuesday, the Financial Times says. The paper reports that one senior government official said Mr Scholz’s aim was to “get a better understanding of Russia’s goals, and to try to figure out if there are any ways back to direct dialogue”.
