Many of Thursday’s papers lead with the growing support for Penny Mordaunt in the race to be the next Tory leader and prime minister. The i reports on the first round of voting in the contest, which saw Rishi Sunak emerge on top with 88 votes but Ms Mordaunt place second with 67. The paper says the surge has “rattled” the other contenders and left Ms Mordaunt as Mr Sunak’s leading rival.
