The i says the biggest six high street banks have all raised the rates on their mortgage deals, with the average of their cheapest offerings now at 6.37%. It adds that brokers have warned of a “snowball effect”, with lenders no longer wanting to offer the cheapest deals because they can’t cope with the surge in demand.
